Hot Springs is a wonderful festival. We had a great time and the film was extremely well received. Chiwoniso has been performing singing and playing marimba since she was 11. Her 3rd solo album, Rebel Woman, was released worldwide in 2009 and has risen to #1 on the World Music Charts Europe, #1 on iTunes World section and #1 in Amazon’s MP3 International-Africa section. The title track from the album has also been nominated Best Contemporary African Song by Museke Online Africa Awards. Banning Eyre described Chiwoniso on NPR as “one of the most compelling young voices in today’s African Music.” She has also performed and collaborated with artist from around the world in as diverse as styles as Sinead O’Connor and Kris Kristoffersen. We are grateful that Chiwoniso has brought her soulful, rich voice to the Liemba narration, providing the same passion to the voice of Liemba that she brings to her music.
