New International Distributer for Liemba!

Liemba will now be distributed outside of North America through Canadian-based 108 Media Corporation , a global media distribution company. The documentary will continue to be distributed in North America through Indican Pictures .

We hope this means Liemba will find it's way onto more screens in Europe and beyond!

Liemba serves as a lifeline for Burundians

The MV Liemba is once again serving as a lifeline for people fleeing violence. The United Nations has recently commissioned the vessel to help rescue refugees from the unrest in Burundi and ferry them to Tanzania. It is indeed amazing that this former warship is now serving this purpose one hundred years after her launch. But while it is truly a heroic mission, it does leave thousands of others stranded with out the ship that they depend on for so much.

The bottom line is, Lake Tanganyika needs another large vessel in order to satisfy the needs of the people living there. Preferably one from this millennium.

The lively & upbeat soundtrack won a Gold Medal for Excellence in Use of Music in a Documentary Film from the 2011 Park City Film Music Festival. This CD includes all the music heard in the documentary plus several additional tracks.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of Chiwoniso Maraire’s death on Wednesday in Zimbabwe. Chi, Liemba’s narrator, was a rising star in Zimbabwe’s music scene. Her songs, playing and spirit were inspirational, powerful & beautiful. In the film, she captured the ship’s personality and brought its story to life with her one of a kind vocal talents.  We were enormously lucky to have had the opportunity to work with her. We will miss her and send our sincere condolences to her family and friends.

Heading to the Burns Film Center in March!

We are thrilled to announce that Liemba will screen at the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville, NY on Thursday, March 28th at 7 PM!

Hometown Screening!

We will be screening Liemba this Sat, Sept. 8th in JB's hometown of Richmond, Vermont at On The Rise Bakery at 8 PM!

On Sunday Sept. 9th, Liemba will be shown at an event for the Society for Industrial Archeology in Croton-on-Hudson, NY.

Liemba's New York City premiere is one week from tonight!!

Liemba will screen Sat., August 18, aboard the historic vessel and maritime museum, the Lilac. The evening will include music from the NYC Afro-Caribbean experimental duo of Yvonne Ubillus and Efraín Rozas. The event is free and open to the public with a cash bar and will kick off at 8 PM. (Those under 21 should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.) The Lilac is moored at Pier 25 in Tribeca at West Street and N. Moore Street. We are very psyched for this special night!

Liemba is heading to NYC!!

Liemba has been invited to screen Saturday, August 18th on the Lilac, a historic lighthouse tender & nautical museum, moored in Tribeca, New York City! This special screening on the deck of the ship will be accompanied by live music and beverages.  We'll post the details as they come in...

TJ wins an Oscar!!

TJ Martin recently won an Oscar for Best Documentary for his film Undefeated! TJ was a key member of the Liemba's production team in Africa and provided some fantastic videography. Congratulations TJ!
